- Formed in 2021 by creator Park In-hye, who has been active in Pansori solo performances, changgeuk, musicals, and dramas - Pansori Azit Nohlae Box is dedicated to creating a distinctively Korean musical theater performances that transcend traditional boundaries. Our mission is to explore how the theatricality and acting techniques inherent in traditional Pansori can be expressed in contemporary theatre. We also strive to nurture/cultivate the next generation of pansori creators and actors.
Pansori Azit Nohlae Box has been recognized over the years for our innovative work within the Pansori genre. Stylistically, our work is mainly divided into two categories: ensemble and solo performances, with the distinctive talents of Park In-hye, who has extensive experience in solo Pansori, as our main asset. Focusing on the ‘story-telling’ aspect of Pansori, we refrain from practicing theatrical acting based in realism. Instead, by imparting multiple roles to one actor, we explore multiple ways to communicate and convey, ultimately refining our techniques as a story-teller.
Content-wise, Nohlae Box is most known for our retellings of classical myths and short stories. <Over the Ddaechang : Munjeon Bonpuri>, <Paper Flower Fields : Duhalmang Bonpuri>, <A Sunny Day> are our most noted works that are based on Korean myths and legends. By looking into legendary tales from the past, borrowing the immense imagination that these tales were built on- we hope to gain perspective and meaning of the world today and share these values with our audience. Our short series/anthology series, exemplified by <Pansori Short Stories> draws from a wide range of Eastern and Western classics to create short pansori performances with theatrical direction. By presenting classic masterpieces to the public, we remind audiences that these works still pose relevant questions in modern times. Internally, our goal is to hone our skills as solo Pansori performers through these productions.
