The beautiful bride and groom, adorned in our elegant wedding attire, perform the traditional wedding ceremony in a sophisticated Hanok, embodying the rich heritage of our ancestors. Join us in celebrating the meaningful and charming traditional ceremony, filled with the wisdom of ancient traditions, accompanied by our vibrant music. Experience the reenactment of an authentic wedding ceremony held in the Namsangol Hanok Village.
The Namsangol Hanok Village traditional wedding ceremony is conducted in a dignified manner following the customs of our historical predecessors.
Step back in time and witness the beauty of traditional Korean weddings during the Joseon Dynasty, where strict gender segregation made arranged marriages customary. The groom would send a marriage proposal and his Saju (the four zodiac signs of birth year) from his house to the bride's house. Accompanied by a *Kirogi (Korean wild goose) and **Kiroukabeom (a designated messenger), the groom would visit the bride's house for the wedding ceremony.
Upon arrival, the groom would place the Kirogi on a ceremonial table called Jeonansang, specifically prepared for the Jeonan ritual at the bride's house, and bow. Following this, the bride's mother would accept the Kirogi. The bride would then emerge from her room, and the bride and groom would meet for the first time. In a heartfelt moment, the couple would pledge their devotion to each other before the heavens and share a drink symbolizing their unity. Once the ceremony concluded, the bride and groom would officially become husband and wife.
*The Kirogi symbolizes fidelity, as it mates for life and remains loyal to its partner.
**The Kiroukabeom is chosen from the groom's family's elders, typically the most fortunate person with a harmonious family life.
